You call your interpreter number and tell it which two languages you need. Put the phone on speaker between you and the other person. One of you speaks, pauses, and the interpreter repeats it in the other language — back and forth, in both directions, for as long as you need. It's the same rhythm a human telephone interpreter uses.

Can I use it for legal or medical interpreting?

It is not a certified or sworn interpreting service, so it shouldn't be used for court proceedings or formal legal and medical interpretation, where a qualified human interpreter is required.
What happens if the interpreter mishears something?
Ask it to repeat, or say the sentence again more simply — it will re-interpret without fuss. Numbers, addresses and prices are repeated carefully because they matter most. Like any interpreter, it works best when one person speaks at a time.
